Linux Mint 13 gets back to desktop basics - Computerworld

Ubuntu spin off derivative, Linux Mint 13 trying to get back users lost during the gnome-shell and Unity war.

It'll be interesting to see how Mint will compare to Ubuntu with new features being planned for the 12.04 long term release. Of particular interest is the HUD- Head Up Display which seeks to get rid of the application menu, which I personally think Canonical made a big error by putting it in the panel.

While Canonical rushes to bring out HUD as its biggest game changer for the next release, I hope Linux Mint also get their gig right.

The consolidated dark wallpaper collection

I have posted a lot of dark themed wallpapers I have found lying around in the depths of the internet. Much of these wallpapers were presented as three separate posts aptly named, Dark wallpapers, More dark wallpapers and Still more dark wallpapers. Now, however, I have to add more wallpapers and quite frankly, these posts take a lot of time to load on a moderate Internet connection. Plus, I don't know what to call the next iteration of this collection

Just be innovative

The consolidated Linux wallpaper collection

I have posted a lot of Linux wallpapers I have found lying around in the depths of the Internet. Much of these wallpapers were presented as two separate posts aptly named, Linux wallpaper collection and More Linux wallpapers. Now, however, I have to add more pictures and quite frankly, these posts take a lot of time to load on a moderate Internet connection. And I can call the new post, 'Still more Linux wallpapers' but I would hit a blogger's block when giving a post name for the next iteration.

Just be innovative

We meet again

Cleaning out my room tonight. Throwing away a lot of CD's stashed inside the cupboard. I was flipping through a bunch of PlayStation game CD when my eyes fell on these.
A Mandrake CD! The first Linux distro I ever used and chances are this is the CD I used to install my first Linux.  This was Mandriva when it still had name that sounded like something out of Greek mythology.

Poker TH 0.9: So much better now

It has been quite some time since I wrote a review on PokerTH, the opensource solution to playing poker on the Linux desktop. Today, I thought 'hey, I wonder how much the game had improved' and installed it from the Ubuntu software center. Nothing extra ordinary happened till I tried to start an online game (just to pass time) upon which I was greeted with a dialogue that would change my perspective of the game forever. A new version of the game was available for downloading! The repository was giving me a much older version of the game, as it is usually the case these days. I just had to get my hands down and dirty on this new version.

Version 0.4... I think.
